I've always found the Japanese stagehand thing very interesting. Where we (assuming a North American we, as it were) would decry a stagehand appearing mid scene, or laugh at their mess up, they would just see it as part of the scene or ignore it.
I've even seen some indications that some people use the idea of the stagehand, or the person who helps in the background, as a noble ideal. (Admittedly, a large section of my Japanese culture does come from anime and related subjects, so I assume it might be a little off.)
