How Hunter Thompson ruined his health

Cheeseburgers, fries, onion rings, and Dove bars.

This was the life of the man who famously said "I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me."  Hunter Thompson committed suicide with a gunshot to the head at age 67, leaving this note:
"No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun — for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your (old) age. Relax — This won't hurt."

  1. He might've finished himself off at 67, but with a regimen like that he was slowly killing himself for years. No wonder he always looked like he had a buzz on - he did! Looks like Doc (the "Doonesbury" character based on Thompson) really is accurate after all, despite Thompson's protestations.

  3. I don't quite believe that's possible, for a diet.

  4. I remember the 70s. Had days very similar to this myself. A bit more acid, a bit less cocaine, Marlboros instead of Dunhills, Jack instead of Chivas. Pretty much the same though. Enjoyed them thoroughly, for about a decade. Then I decided I'd like to hit 70 or 80 and stopped. But, damn it was fun while it lasted! And I have stories my friends only wish they could tell. Good times. Somebody wants to badmouth those days never lived them.
