Bougainvillea

...attached to a university building in Nanning, China — currently standing over 100ft high. The purple bougainvillea was planted ten years ago and has already grown enough to cover the five-storey building from top to bottom. University officials have applied to the Guinness Book of World Records to see if it’s the biggest-ever.

  1. I once had a bougainvillea as tall as the house blow down in a windstorm. It was very difficult to cut and tie, as it had long, sharp thorns. One of my daughters had bougainvillea overgrown in her patio, causing mold, mildew and lots of insects. It's really best kept well-trimmed.
