Poliosis

Poliosis is a condition in which there is a lack of pigment in the hair, eyebrows and eyelashes, which appear whitish, grey. The condition normally occurs in patches. It is often associated with vitiligo, alopecia and forms part of the Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome.
Image from This Mama Makes Stuff, which has an excellent discussion and comment thread re vitiligo, depigmentation, and how to help children and adolescents cope with the disorder.

    1. Thank you so much. For some reason I couldn't locate the image using the TinEye reverse image search, so your providing the link really helps, because the source blog has a very nice discussion of the topic. I've modified my post accordingly.

Your blog has some remarkable images; I've previously blogged the calico lobster and the polycoria.

  2. You can go your whole life without hearing of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome.... then hear it about it two times in as many months in two wildly different circumstances. Just goes to show you what a weird thing life is... and what a wonderful blog you so graciously maintain for us all. Thanks!
