Another blogcation

This morning my wife and I took delivery of 12 cubic yards (!) of hardwood mulch.  That's probably about 6000-8000 pounds of mulch, and we need to get it spread in the woods before it becomes even heavier from rain and snow.  This will take a while...

  1. Please excuse my ignorance. Why does one need to spread mulch in the woods?

    1. Some of it will go around hostas and other plantings, but 95% of it is going to go on walking paths that extend about 500 feet in various directions.

  2. It sounds just a little more impressive if you describe it as 324 cubic feet ;)

  3. Happy mulching :) It looks like you have quite a backyard.

  4. i've been an avid reader of your blog for several years. i love it. during your blogcations i miss the stream of interestingness that normally flows into my life.

i just wanted to note - i've never known what your gender is. before this post, if i had been forced to guess, i would've guessed you are female. now i'd lean towards guessing male, purely because i assume you live in minnesota, and have for some time, and mention having a wife. i don't think you had ever used a gendered descriptor for yourself or your partner before this post.

i don't know if that's been a conscious decision on your part to avoid gendered language - and to be clear, i don't care what your gender (or sexual orientation) is. i just find it interesting that even though it makes no difference to me, i've apparently been subconsciously keeping a tally of what gender you might be, which has been a blank slate before today.

aren't socially constructed dichotomies just the best?

    1. I do try to keep my personal life out of the blog as much as possible (partly in reaction to those dreadful lookhere'swhatihadforlunchtoday blogs, but sometimes personal details creep in, including a photo or two -

  5. If you're really dying for something interesting, this is by the guy who wrote 1492

it involves the evolution of body lice, evolution of homo sapiens, red fire ants, ecological collapse, the end of slavery and the human race's best hope for avoiding a Malthusian end game - it's much better than his book.

    1. Thank you, Bub. It looks good, but I'm just totaly overwhelmed with stuff, including chores and material for the blog. It'll have to wait (a long time). Tx.
