Reposted from 2012 because it is presumably still true.

  1. Thanks. I was wondering about that and also about the design, but have been too occupied with other things to go search for myself. (second attempt at posting comment; first one had half of sentence missing)

  2. This would make them sterling silver with a gold plating on them. Ironic!

  3. The medals have had a fixed amount of gold for some time, but the percentage has fallen because of the addition of other metals. I think what this reflects is the desire of the marketers of the Olympics to make the medals big for television and stadium audience.

  4. And yet they could afford 660,000 for that horrible logo?

  5. Anyone have trouble searching for 'xxx olimpiad' with their safe search settings turned on?

  6. So what's the silver one made out of? Bronze?

  7. The original Olympic games had it right. There was one winner, and he received an olive wreath. However, he did attain the ancient version of superstar status in his hometown; statues were erected, free meals, best seats at theaters, even private 'gyms.'
