Timelapse of Alfred Hitchcock's "Rear Window"

This is an awesome video accomplishment.  Not for the timelapse per se, but for assembling the various scenes to form a panoramic view.
I dissected all of Hitchcock's Rear Window and stiched it back together in After Effects. I stabilized all the shots with camera movement in them. Since everything was filmed from pretty much the same angle I was able to match them into a single panoramic view of the entire backyard without any greater distortions. The order of events stays true to the movie's plot.

  2. I use after effects as a motion graphics artist, and this is an incredibly impressive use of it.

  3. As good as this is, technically I see flaws, with the sky and shadows.

The sun seems to set in the distance and somewhat to the right, implying a western-looking view. Fine. But then it has a full Moon rising in the distance - in the west. No can be.

The angle of the Moon's rising is also wrong. The Moon's declination above the Ecliptic means it's rising angle will at NYC be at about 15° to 45°. The Moon is rising angle here appears considerably less than 10°. (My numbers are off the top of my head and are not precise, but still generally correct.)

Additionally, the Sun's summer setting IS to the NW, but in the daytime it is to the SOUTH. The shadows shown in the courtyard show the late morning Sun somewhat to the north. The larger shadow to the right of center never even moves during the day. It is even cast late in the day, when the Sun is in the distance beyond - behind the sunny side of the building. Tsk tsk tsk, Alfred.

All this is Hitchcock's error. The timelapse is awesome.
