1956

It's the era of Elvis Presley, but this young woman (perhaps your mother?) is not waxing ecstatic about him, but about another singer who, in 1957 was a "two-to-one favorite over Elvis Presley among boys and preferred almost three-to-one by girls." See if you can guess his identity before seeing the answer below the fold...

  3. Amazing--I sort of expected it (always suspect the unexpected at Tywkiwdbi), but still amazing.

  6. About 10 years ago I was at a small private party where Pat Boone was among the guests. When a young women (who was perhaps about 30 years old at the time) saw him, she squealed. Loudly. Pat was quite impressed. He said wow, there's something that hasn't happened in a long time!

  8. Okay, so I was born in '56, but my sister is 8 years older than I am. Something happened in those intervening 8 years, because her interest in music always leaned towards Pat Boone and Bobby Vinton and guys like that. I was firmly in the Led Zeppelin camp.

    1. Something BIG happened in those 8 years. My sister was six years older than me, but her musical tastes may as well have belonged to my grandma;)

  9. It just goes to show you how repressed the '50s really were.

My guess was Jerry Lee Lewis.
