Hues

Yes, the loud colors hurt my eyes too, but I'm posting the image for its qualities as an optical illusion.  In the top figure, the orange at the left and the red at the right are the same color, and in the lower one, the yellowish-green on the left and the bluish-green at the right are also identical.

Found at Mighty Optical Illusions, where the screencap I've embedded can be viewed as a dynamic gif.

  1. This actually doesn't work for me. I don't see any difference between the colors.

  2. Ditto 289, I see no orange at all in the upper image, just red with blue and yellow stripes on it.
    Similarly for the green one.

  3. Yeah - doesn't work for me too well either. But then the optician who last tested my colour vision said he'd never met anyone with such poor colour perception.
Of course - I never notice it, and find there are many situations where I appear able to distinguish colours others find inseperable.

    1. Doesn't work for me either, even on the gif. I'm a little colourblind, so I wonder if that has an affect?

  4. I can't believe you all can't see a difference. Try covering up that middle part with a file card or something and look at it again and compare the two sides.

  6. It doesn't work as the still image, but it's very striking as the animated gif on the source page.
