He was the second U.S. president to be photographed.

Born before Independence in 1767, photographed at age 78 in 1845.  Those who don't recognize him will find his identity at Historical Indulgences.

  2. A man with a mixed legacy, but I've always been fascinated by him. Someday, when you have the time, you should read Wellington's correspondence concerning Jackson and his tactics at New Orleans - the British General sacrificed in that campaign was Wellington's brother-in-law, Bertie Pakenham (the Brits considered a courtmartial post-mortem for the loss). I'm sorry, but I'm not having any luck with google to get you a citation...
