Disposing of metallic sodium

I was reminded of this old video yesterday, and decided it was worth a separate post.  Some of you will remember, as I do, seeing this effect (on a milligram scale) in a high-school chemistry laboratory.

  2. A family friend/my 7th grade science teacher (trust me, akward...had trouble not calling him Bob) told the class a story once about how he'd gotten sodium on his hands while cleaning a lab table, not realizing what it was, and washed it off. He still has scars.

...this same man has also been struck by lightning at least 4 times.
