A history of U.S. intervention in Iran

The first 8 minutes provide useful background; the last 1:30 are devoted to an analogy that doesn't add much.

  1. Also goes to show that the United States should NEVER follow the British lead. We overthrew the democratically elected leader of Iran at the behest of the British Government, and the Iranians still understandably are upset about it. Back in 1918, in the wake of the Russian Revolution and their withdrawal from WWI (Thank you Germans for helping Lenin take control in Russia), the British convinced the Americans to try and force the Russians back into the war. We sent a reinforced Infantry Regiment, and the Russians have resented and worried about that ever since.

  4. I never said that the British MADE us overthrow the government, rather I said that we did it on their request, big difference. And in case my last piece was unclear, to a certain extent we did the same thing in Russia following their withdrawal from WWI, also at the request of the British Government.

  5. Ohh, one thing I forgot. Unlike our operations in Iran where it was done at the request of, but during the absence of Britain, in Russia, the British had far more troops and units in place then we did. They also suffered far more casualties then we did.
