Pubic covers
The top one is made of mother-of-pearl, crafted by an indigenous Australian. The lower one is made of vegetable fiber, and was made in New Guinea. Both are from the collections of the British Museum, and were posted at A LondonSalmagundi.
HA! I thought the label was "Public Covers" and I was trying to figure out which songs they could be referring to and then I thought "These look like some of those string maps," and then I finally read the title correctly. Heh.

ReplyDeleteA relative visited PNG some years ago and came back to report that the grass skirt affairs are locally known as "arse grass".
