Russian youths partying

Found at English Russia and offered without comment or judgement.

p.s. - what's the genre of this music?  Is it a form of "techno"?

  1. Probably more along the lines of "industrial" techno.

  2. Yes, that would be techno.

I mean, would have been 15 years ago.

  4. I'm by no means experienced with this music, but if you're curious (and you always seem to be!), there is this handy site for exploring the myriad subgenres of electronic music.

This seems to sit somewhere in the "Euro" or "hard" branches of techno (e.g. Swedish), but again I don't really know what I'm talking about.

  5. Looks like they're just trying to get/stay warm in the second one :)

  6. I didn't realize I was so far behind the times...

  7. What strikes me about these videos, especially the first, was how apparently fit these young people are. From my experience, in a similar assemblage of young people in the US, there would be far more flab bouncing to and fro.

  8. Can't comment on the music but the second video was shot in the heart of Moscow, not too far from Red Square. In one scene, you can see the Peter the Great Statue in the background. The statue is the eight largest statue in the world and is hideous. A lot of Muscovites do not like the aesthetics of the statue. I was there in 2001.

  10. It's Gabber, though with a drum and bass feel to it, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drum_and_Bass .

Electronic musicians cut their genres so finely, I gave up keeping them sorted out back in the 90s.

  11. The style of dance seems to be a predecessor of jumpstyle.

Now, I'm off to find out what the name of the second track is. It's pretty decent :)

  12. @ Paul - perhaps, but even our fat white kids dance better than that.

  13. For all you criticizing Minnesotan on his lack of knowledge. Obviously he knew what techno was. Second, why would anyone need to have a larger knowledge on the subject? It's total crap. Anyone who likes it has no soul.
