  1. For those interested in riding a railroad on a part of the original Flint-Pere Marquette railroad, visit Crossroads Village and the Huckleberry Railroad in Flint, MI. A GORGEOUS 1850s historical village, the Huckleberry Railroad features a steam-powered narrow-guage engine that runs a 15-minute or so loop on part of the orignal rails.

Huckleberry Railroad, btw, comes from the local lore that the train originally ran so slow that passengers could jum0p off a car near the front, grab some huckleberries when in season, and get back on at the back of the train. It's a fun ride, lots of good history in the ride and the village, and one of the few things that the Flint/Genesee County, MI area got really, really RIGHT.

(Yes, I lie in MO now, but I am a Flint-area transplant!)
