"Diamonds are a girl's best friend"

These lyrics would today be considered at least old-fashioned (and more likely politically incorrect), but the song and dance sequence from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" is an iconic moment in an otherwise forgettable movie.

  1. Aw, forgettable? It's one of my absolute favorite movies. I want to be Jane Russell so badly...

  2. Politically incorrect? How so? Have you seen those music videos that are really soft porn shorts set to modern music?

  3. QuinteCareer, I can only assume from your "How so?" comment that you haven't seen the movie. My impression of "political incorrectness" has nothing whatsoever to do with sexuality or titillation, but rather with the role of women and their goals in life and their estimation of self-worth.

  4. otherwise forgettable?!?! Are you insane?! Oh my goodness this is one of my most favorite movies! And Jane Russell? Ha-cha-cha!! The music in this movie is fantastic and the cast is adorable and so much fun- especially the scene in the night court!!
And I'm sorry but I also can not agree on the 'politically incorrectness' of the song. I think Marilyn/Lorelei summed it up perfectly towards the end that a woman wanting a man who has money is no more incorrect than a man who wants a pretty wife. It's not a necessity but it sure makes livin nice!!

  5. Also (sorry for the multi post) that song was done to tick off her suitor and make a point. It was done tongue in cheek
