If you're in a hurry, skip to the 5:15 mark to see the aftermath.

  1. I'm in Sydney and the main TV channels have been doing all-day bulletins because the flooding is so widespread up north. They're predicting that it will get worse still.

  2. Wow. I didn't know cars would float like that, I guess it takes the passenger compartments longer to fill than I thought.

I thought the one guy who moved his car was going to wind up in serious trouble. As the Red Cross warnings say - six inches of moving water can swoop a person, two feet can move a vehicle. If there's more than just a couple inches of water like that, don't go. It's not worth adding your body to that pileup at the end.

  3. I noticed that guy who moved his car had a snorkle for his engine, good move consider what water will do to the engine if it gets flooded.

  4. I live in Brisbane and am a regular reader... Toowoomba and nearby towns (especially Grantham) were definitely the worst hit and is where most of the fatalities are - however as you probably have heard Brisbane city itself suffered major flooding. My office was literally right on the river and was one of the first to go under and at the peak was completely under water - lucky we had plenty of warning and got everything out in time. Other's weren't so lucky. The river peaked this morning and is receding now, thank god.

  5. I'm glad you're safe; I had previously emailed one of my Aussie readers who said she was on high ground. TYWKIWDBI gets about 600 visits/month from the Brisbane area, from Coffs Harbour up to Bundaberg. My best hopes and wishes to all of you.

  6. Thanks mate! Huge volunteer effort - for the cleanup - really proud of all my fellow Aussies. Of course you get the looters and scammers but the good side of human nature is far outweighing the bad this time - at one volunteer station they were expecting 6,000 but got 10,000 and had to send some people home, and $85million raised to help the victims.
