"Feed the Flock" Pepsi ad pulled from Super Bowl consideration

This ad was pulled from consideration for use by Pepsi during the Super Bowl because it was deemed to be "irredeemably offensive" to Christians.  A representative from Pepsico has apologized to the public for having the ad even in consideration.

It has been pulled from their website and reportedly also from YouTube.  So this embed may not last long.   Warning:  This advertisement this might offend your religious sensibilities (or just your sense of good taste).

Via Althouse (another Madison blogger).

Update: As predicted, the video has been yanked from YouTube.  It is, however, now available at this link.  At least for a while...

  1. That is highly irreverent, sacrilegious, insulting, and generally in bad taste. I'm laughing my butt off.

I actually used chips for a private communion once. Tasted good.

  2. As a former Catholic, I wonder if what transubstantiation would result. Cheesus Sangre deCola?

  3. Plenty of churches and religions provide food before/after worship, and you can bet it adds to their numbers. When I was in school we only went to mass because we wanted to make our first communion and confirmation and get the associated money.

Would Christmas be as popular without the gifts? Or marriages without the tax breaks and wedding presents?

Christians are becoming the touchiest group of people. At least atheists can take a joke!

  4. I'm an atheist and usually up for jokes about religion, but that was really stupid. The idea was amusing, but the execution was terrible. Maybe with better writing and acting it could be funny, at least to me.

And I do think that mocking communion during the Super Bowl is both pointlessly rude and liable to backfire badly had they actually been able to put it on air. Who do they think most of their customers are?

  6. god that was awful... i don't give one whit of consideration to the potential religious offence given by this ad... it's just abysmal. What kind of half wit would write this?

  7. sorry, anon. You should come here every day :.)

If you're really curious, try waiting a day or two, then typing "feed the flock" + Pepsi into YouTube. Videos like these have a propensity for resurrecting from the dead at intervals, if someone has saved it and reposts it.

  9. I'm with the majority of commenters on this one... it's just a poor ad, whether you consider it 'offensive' or not.

The writer & director should be fired, not for offending someone's relgious taste, but because they are idiots who don't belong in advertising or production in the first place and would be better off flipping burgers someplace.
