Pondering an unbalanced federal budget

  1. Sorry, but it's not easy.
The areas where we need to cut spending (defense and healthcare, primarily) are driven by powerful industries that don't easily abide being cut back.
Other areas of reduction are mostly small potatoes as far as the deficit goes, and can create a lot of human misery.
And this smug little cartoon disregards the other equally logical part of the solution--tax increases. Also not easy, for obvious reasons, but necessary nonetheless.

    - and have a go at doing it yourself.

  3. Thanks.
Yes, I looked at how you "solved" the deficit and liked it--70% revenue increases and 30% spending cuts in the right places. Now we just need to get you elected.
I love your blog BTW, and was sorry to make my first-ever comment a critical one, but the recent deficit discussions mostly drive me up a wall.

  4. Re going up the wall, I quite agree. Some of the days I don't blog happen because I've surfed the 'net for a few hours and am too bummed out to do any writing.
