I wonder where this photo was snapped? In some cultures, like Mauritania, this woman would be considered the epitome of beautiful. There are "fat camps" in West Africa where instead of striving to lose weight, young girls are force fed fatty foods until they are as large as this woman.
A friend of mine grew up in Nigeria as a missionary's kid. She remembered coming back to America on furlough, and their entire family was tan and thin from running around in the sun and eating unprocessed foods, so they'd come back looking great. Then they'd fly back to Africa a few months or a year later all pale and padded, and their local friends would exclaim how good they looked! That at least worked out nicely for them.
It's funny because we're better than her.
