  1. That was the original intention of the Roman Catholic Church Doctrine,
And the assumption is thus correct, but only up to the days of reformation,It was discouraged to read the bible in that time,Now however, the bible has become the conscience of good and evil. But since 1906 at the mission in Los Angeles, It is once again The life Voice of God. With insight to the future...

  3. But those that actually read (and not skim) the license agreement, will soon realize that the free software could completely and easily free them from the malware of the world.

  4. Lol,if it was not for the bible,Google would not exist today. All scholarly education started from the bible including the study of its validity. It is the center of knowledge, and the basis for the legal system and judiciary,at least in modern civilization. Because of fragmenting the bible we have also the worlds greatest conflicts. For me, it is my only source of knowledge and education, since grade school. With help from Google.Thank you!

    1. Baloney. The Greeks figured out the planet was a sphere about 900 years before the bible existed. The code of Hamurabi predated the Judism proper by 1200 years. The Egyptians were doing all kinds of smart stuff 1000 years before the 10 commandments.

  5. Religions are like a software license. If you actually take the time read the fine print, you will find the language almost impossible to comprehend, misleading, overly burdensome, legally unsupportable, invasive, out-dated, of dubious merit, and often just plain nonsense.

And just like a software license, if you read all the fine print, you will have some very serious reservations before you click that "I agree" button.

    1. The Bible does not have fine print. It means exactly what it says.

  6. @Brian: I agree Brian the bible does not make sense, the interpretors did not even understand it. It will always be a mystery, to them that have no desire to know God and rely on their own "wisdom" It can only be understood by them that seek God and He gives the understanding!

    1. The Bible makes perfect sense. You just need to apply yourself a little more.

  7. Mr. Fisherman - I would have to believe you when you say the Bible is your only source of knowledge and education since grade school. You obviously are ignorant of the vast body of scientific knowledge that arose in the Chinese empires before the onset of the "Christian era" and afterwards independent of any influence of your Bible.

To say "all scholarly education started from the Bible" shows your own ignorance.

  8. I would have to say sir, that you have truly shown your ignorance and pain, also your loneliness due to an empty life without the Lord. I believe that if you will truly take time out of each and every day to read the Bible, then you will see just how educational and inspiring it can be. Please do not take my comment the wrong way,as I am not saying you are ignorant only that you have a exceptional aility to achieve higher learning, so why not give it a chance

  10. That would be very sad (i.e., NOT to ready the Bible)! I don't know why would anyone do that to themselves. They're not just hurting themselves, they're also depriving themselves from one of the greatest pleasures in life!

  11. I love reading the bible, it's really a juicy read and a good work of fiction.

The comments about the bible being the origin for modern law and order is so historically wrong that it's comical.

  12. From A Clockwork Orange--

I would read of these starry yahoodies tolchocking each other ... and then peeting their Hebrew vino and getting on to the bed with their wives' like hand-maidens, real horrorshow. That kept me going, brothers. I didn't so much kopat the later part of the book, which is more like all preachy govoreeting than fighting and the old in-out. (2.1.9)

  13. I assume that the original poster did the exact same thing except after they didn't bother to read the bible, they chose "I don't agree."

  14. Steve +1.
Fisherman obviously isn't aware that there was stuff out there besides/before Christianity^^ Huge amounts of his "scholarly education" comes from the old greek. But hey, I'm sure they read the bible too (they had some ways to read books to come^^).

  15. Knowledge is very dangerous, without WISDOM to apply it. Just like skills to use tools ! like gunpowder, nuclear bombs , and cars without provision for exercise! Like Damming rivers and choke off the worlds arteries. is like your car overheating and blaming the fuel tank.So much for the wisdom of science! Global warming ??? Have some more coke and chocolate!

  16. I don't get it... how's that relevant? Anyway, Non christian are not wise then?Hence Plato, Aristotle, Socrates,Confucius and Zarathustra where all stupid guys with no wisdom at all of course.

And your trying discredit science through "global warming", a scientific finding... verry whise. And who brought global warming into light? Christian scientists maybe? ha, good one. They're way too busy proving Darwin wrong.

  17. The problem with posts like this is that it drags out those who want to convince other people they are wrong - whichever side they might be on. That will never happen without true, thoughtful conversation, so let's not attempt it here and instead treat each other with respect.

The real point of the post (as I read it) is that the modern "Christian" doesn't actually know what they supposedly believe in. That's great for keeping control and preaching hate, but it makes "Christians" look like fools. True Christians know what the Bible says. Jesus took it down to two things and two things only - love God, and love your neighbor (that is: EVERYONE) as yourself. No hate, no "I'm better than you", no denying people basic dignity because the DON'T believe what you do or happen to be from a certain ethnic background.

The point is: Know what you believe - don't just skip to the end - and the DO what you believe.

  18. Anonymous (the last one), your words seem to be very comforting and reassuring. But you talk like the Bible consists only of the New Testament. There is also the Old Testament, which is chockfull of war and killing and horrific punishments and subgugation of women. And you can't say that Jesus negated all the OT guidelines because he himself said he had not come to replace the Law, he came to fulfil it.

  19. Christian church has more than 20.000 (!!!!) fractions and church divided is no church at all

  20. Aaron you are correct to say that the OT has a lot of wars. if you delve into it thou the Children of Israel were being led by God to there promised land. other parts are about how this nation of people kept turning there backs on God. he sent prophets, kings, and judges to them and they kept turning and sinning. He kept loving them and chastising them as a father would. yes he killed off many of his own as to not pollute the coming generations to Sin, by turning to Idols made from human hands.
aside - I have studied other religions and at one point in my life was a practicing pagan. I have made my own decisions on what and how I believe not just taking things at face value.

  21. All religions offered a code of conduct for the adherents, which was therefore the law, though not always a good law when judged in the present context. The point is, religions did try to create order in society. The core message of all the major religions is humanism. Then religion also raised questions, if only by providing inadequate and unacceptable (in todays' context)answers regarding creation of universe and interaction forces of nature.Beyond this, it would be too wrong to say that any holy book(some Muslims too have similar claims about the Quran) was the source of all sciences. It remains the fact of history how adherents of the holy books treated the men of science. The men of religion are, unfortunately, still trying to obstruct scientific research in fields where they thinks lies a threat to God.

The problem with religion arises out of undue insistence by its followers on the completeness and harsh exclusiveness of its 'truth'. This extreme emphasis on 'belief' and monopolizing of truth has often resulted in division of mankind into mutually destructive hate groups (even within the same religion).

The degree of tolerance and respect for diversity that we witness today has come, nay not from religion, from secular thinkers and scientists.
