House Republican leader John Boehner offered that suggestion in an interview with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:
"Ensuring there's enough money to pay for the war will require reforming the country's entitlement system, Boehner said. He said he'd favor increasing the Social Security retirement age to 70 for people who have at least 20 years until retirement, tying cost-of-living increases to the consumer price index rather than wage inflation and limiting payments to those who need them."
As noted at the link,
several prominent Democrats have expressed similar sentiments.
Right ideas, wrong reason. We need to reform our entitlements so we have money to spend on anything, not the war in Afghanistan.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable.
ReplyDeleteSo let's make sure we're getting this - cut a government handout to Americans so we can put that saved money into either the hands of corporate weapons manufacturers or as a handout to foreign peoples whose country we've invaded?
In contrast, we shouldn't even BE in Iraq, and Afghanistan has been so horribly mismanaged for years that it's virtually unwinnable (to say nothing of the fact that we wouldn't know if we won anyway).
That's why I filed this in the "rant" category.
