The fun car of 1953

After I wrote a post about reclining car seats, someone provided a link to this advertisement for the Nash "Airliner" in 1953.   Those seats reclined to horizontal, and the dealers offered air mattresses as an accessory for the "hunters" and "fishermen."  I'll bet a lot of young people used this car to go "camping."

As an aside, the artistic style of these panels reminds me strongly of some Mad magazine cartoons from that period, I think illustrated by Bob Clarke (the ad is uncredited).

  1. My dad's 1965 Mercedes Benz 190D did the same thing, and we did plenty of car camping this way when I grew up. I sold the car in 1997.
