Hearst Castle indoor pool

"Here’s a cool fact about this pool. Nearby, there is a huge room that was intended for a gymnasium that Hearst never constructed. The State then made it useable for IT and Archive area, so the water cools the computers… wild, eh?"

  2. Very cool. I went on the Hearst Castle tour and stood next to this pool. It is every bit as impressive in person as it is in this picture. It took a lot of self-control not to jump in.

  3. Essentially every room on the estate is equally fascinating. I go to school with the son of the caretaker, and my university (California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo) has a Hearst Castle history class; when my mother was a student here, anyone who passed the class was automatically offered a summer position as a tour guide.

  4. I'm assuming that if the water cools the computers the computers heat the pool. I love it. Anyone have any idea how this is accomplished? Is it a passive system? Do they pump the water?

  5. I think that twice a day they dip the computers in the pool to cool them off.
