Curiosity never grows old. True love killed the cat.

Schott's Vocab column at the New York Times asked readers to send in pairs of proverbs in which portions of proverbs had been switched. It's easy to come up with one funny one, but to come up with a good pair is a bit of a challenge. Of the 32 submissions printed in the Times this past weekend, these are my favorites -

A little knowledge is a friend indeed.
A friend in need is a dangerous thing.

Too many cooks spoil the kitchen.
If you can't stand the heat, get out of the broth.

Living well makes the heart grow fonder.
Absence is the best revenge.

Nature abhors a home.
There's no place like a vacuum.

Honesty is no excuse.
Ignorance of the law is the best policy.

That which does not kill us keeps the doctor away.
An apple a day makes us stronger.

It isn't over until you're having fun.
Time flies when the fat lady sings.

If at first you don't succeed, leap.
Look before you try, try again.
