Rethinking airline passenger accommodations
A designer working independently from any airline has proposed some alternative arrangements for passenger seating, raising some seats into the air (top) to make use of the area currently occupied by overhead racks. Another concept (bottom) involves raising alternate seat rows just a few inches to increase legroom.
One suspects that practical, legal, and regulatory objections will doom these concepts to oblivion, but it's nice to see someone considering the problem. A Chinese discount airline has come up with an alternative solution - having passengers stand for the duration of the flight; they would also be allowed no luggage, no food, and no water.
