The feet of a ballerina

I have no idea whether these are in any way typical, but it is food for thought...

  1. they are very common. i had friends back in grade school who were ballerinas and they were missing whole toenails.

  3. Those are very typical. I used to be a dancer, but I stopped so my feet aren't so ugly. Missing toenails, calluses, bunions - all a payment of looking weightless and effortless

  4. It's interesting to me the wide variety of life experiences that visitors to this blog have had. Sometimes it seems that no matter what I post, someone will have knowledge or experience in the area.

  5. I had a brief ballet craze as a young teenager. Never got as far as taking lessons, but I did read a biography of the British prima ballerina Alicia Markova, which at one point described how, after hours of practice, her toe shoes would leave a trail of blood. I think that must have been when I got discouraged and moved on to something else.

  7. That's just another expression of misogyny in society. (just like Chinese foot binding) This is why I hate classical ballet now, even though I'm Russian and grew up in ballet-worshipping culture. I dance, but I make sure whatever dancing I do isn't hurting me
