Polygonum multiflorum

A Chinese herb also known as knotweed, used in traditional Chinese medicine; it reportedly will "balance a fragile yin." Another anthropomorphic example depicted here.

Photo credit somewhere here; the via has other views.

Addendum: lifesart offers the reasonable suggestion that the root of this plant may have been grown inside a form.

  1. These are grown by putting the root tuber into a form. I've done it with potatoes and carrots.
