The Cave of Swimmers
Last night I watched The English Patient (again) and was pleased to be reminded in the end credits that the "Cave of Swimmers" is a real entity. It is located in the middle of nowhere, near the junction of Egypt, Libya, and Sudan: maps and satellite images.
At a website dedicated to the movie's protagonist, László Almásy I found the video embedded above. It's a nonprofessional production, but it's interesting to me to note the rock eroded by water (not wind) in the middle of the desert. I'm reminded of how the Sphinx also showed evidence of rainfall erosion before its base was repaired.
There is an excellent review of the Gilf Kebir and the cave at this link.
