Married frogs and Jesus on a seat cushion

Two stories I encountered today that seem to fit well in a single blogpost. First, from India:
From biyanaam, or songs sung at a wedding, to joron, a ceremony to present ornaments, dresses and vermilion to the bride ahead of a marriage, the event was marked by all the customs associated with a typical Assamese wedding. And it was witnessed by the residents of the Hengerabari locality from Wednesday till Friday night. The nuptial knot was tied at 11 p.m. on Friday.

However, the bride, Bijuli, and the groom, Barun, were not human beings but two frogs. They were caught and brought here from the Tihu area of lower Assam’s Nalbari district to perform a symbolic marriage to invoke the rain-god as a dry spell over the past couple of months has hit the city and most parts of the State.
The other story comes from Reunion, an island in the Indian Ocean:

Thousands of people have flocked to a Roman Catholic church on the French Indian Ocean island of Reunion after believers said they saw the “face of Christ” in the pleats of a church cushion.

Church officials limited access to the Jesus-Misericordieux church in eastern Saint-Andre’s Cambuston district to a few minutes per visitor as traffic in the area ground to a halt.

Believers and curious onlookers pulled out cameras to take pictures of the cushion attached to the priest’s chair.

Antoinette, an 82-year-old parishioner, said the face was a “divine phenomenon” as tears welled up her eyes.

I'll defer any commentary. Res ipse loquitur.

  1. Did you see the piece of toast with Obama's image? Does that promote him to deity status?

  2. I think this is kind of like the atheist toast you had up a few days ago. Jesus in a pillow...I guess that's better than this: http://chocolates.tripod.com/C983.jpg

  3. So Jesus' face appeared from the butt of a Catholic priest? Are they sure it's not just an altar boy's face?
