Click the photo to view this very interesting house from about 1900. Notes at the
Flickr site indicate that this is "St. Helena" on Torrington Road, the home of a "notorious" newspaper editor, John Norton.
It's not, in my view, a particularly attractive home from the outside, but is interesting because it appears to be placed cliffside with a large verandah and what I believe is called a "widow's walk" on the roof, more often associated with the homes of New England ship captains.
This photo comes from the
Powerhouse Museum Collection, which appears to have about a thousand historic photos of Australia. Well worth exploring, for those with time and interest.
