Basketball score: 72-2

I seldom blog sports, but thought this was interesting. The University of Minnesota women's basketball team crushed their opponents 72-2 in their season opener ... in 1905. The opponents were from a local high school.
It was the fastest, snappiest and most brilliant play ever put up by the university girls and although the high school girls fought gamely to the last, they were badly outclassed and were never dangerous. Minnesota scored within a minute after the game started and continued to put the ball in the basket on an average of one a minute for the thirty-five minutes of play.
The photo shows bloomers as the athletic fashion of the era, and the basket nailed to the face of a wall, which would discourage layups (but the ball wasn't dribbled in that era anyway...)

  1. I'm not sure I would be so proud of that score, considering they were facing high school girls. I guess there weren't many women's basketball teams out there to compete against in 1905. Love the uniforms though.
