Graphic violence

"By Ala', a thirteen-year-old refugee from Darfur. The drawing depicts a rebel soldier killed by gunshots to the groin, a common method of execution employed by janjaweed militia-men. It is included in "Smallest Witnesses: ThecCrisis in Darfur Through Children's Eyes," organized by Human Rights Watch, and will be on exhibit in September at Gallery Franziska Kessler, in Zurich."

Found in the hard copy of Harper's Magazine, July 2008. TYWKIWDBI tries to avoid graphic violence, because we recognize this blog is visited by 12-year-old girls, but this child's drawing addresses so directly the problems of modern Africa that we thought it deserved wider recognition.
