The joy of a leaf pile

Those of you who live in subtropical climes will not be familiar with this. I remember such piles from my childhood, and can still call up memories of the scratchiness of the pointy ends of oak leaves and the unforgettable odor of a burning leaf pile (back in the days when citizens were actually allowed to have fires on their property...)

  1. It brings back fond memories. I loved the smell of burning leaves.

  2. I live in the country and we burn our yard waste frequently. I grew up on a wheat farm and some years, after harvest, we'd burn the stalks and chaff in the field. Sometimes the fire jumped to another field. Whew boy, that was NOT fun.

  3. rpmason - re the fire jumping to the field, you should check to see if your library has a dvd of the film Days of Heaven. There is one scene in it you would appreciate.
