This photo from Politico is going viral on the web tonight. It purportedly shows then-Senator Barack Obama preparing for the Chicago St. Patrick's Day parade in 2003. That explains the green.
The toilet plunger is raised in the air because the picture was taken while he was practicing for participation in the "Lawn Rangers." As explained by Dave Barry,
"The Lawn Rangers perform highly sophisticated semi-synchronized maneuvers with lawnmowers, brooms, and toilet plungers. Membership in this crack unit is a great honor, bestowed only on whoever shows up..."Looks like the sort of community event any junior state senator might take part in. But since the report and photo comes from Dave Barry, for the moment it needs to be taken with a grain of salt...
One wonders how this would have played out had it been released during the campaign...
