The Power of Art - Caravaggio
Simon Schama's Power of Art documentaries aired on the BBC in 2006. I don't know whether they have been rebroadcast on American television. The episodes profiled Caravaggio, Bernini, Rembrandt, David, Turner, VanGogh, Picasso and Rothko.
Embedded above is the beginning of the profile of Caravaggio; it's an attention-grabber. If you want to see the others, you can access them via YouTube or Google Video (or here as a single one-hour clip).
Schama's History of Britain series was outstanding. If this series is equally well done, it would be well worth viewing.
Many thanks to John McNulty at Uncertain Times for the heads-up.
No doubt Schama's latest production "The American Future: A History, by Simon Schama" will be of the same high standard. Look out for it, on youtube (BBC iplayer doesn't stream abroad).
This series was wonderful.
