Here's how "Democracy" works
For TYWKIWDBI visitors who live in countries with authoritarian rulers, here's a shining example of how Democracy works. Senator Diane Feinstein speaking with regard to the Senate Bailout vote, as recorded by C-Span.
She explains that her office has received 91,000 calls and emails regarding the Bailout. 85,000 of those calls and emails were in OPPOSITION to the measure. In her judgement, however “there is a great deal of confusion out there” and these people “don’t understand” the situation, so she will be voting FOR the Bailout.
Americans are often told to call their congressmen or write to their representatives. It doesn't do any good. It doesn't matter. They will do what they want when they want even if 85,000 people take the time to contact them.
Don't feel bad, British Democracy works exactly the same way.
ReplyDeleteTechnically, its a republic, not a democracy, which is why those fools in Washington can get away with crap like that. The burden is now placed on those 85,000 people who called Feinstein to oppose the bill to get her recalled and out of Washington.
ReplyDeleteSigh...
