Name that animal - round 12
The last entry was, indeed, a "rosy-lipped batfish." Image credit to National Geographic; the critter does have modified fins that allow it to "walk" on the seabed. The "lipstick" is said to "enhance species recognition during spawning. Further information here if for some reason you have so much time on your hands that you want to read even more information about batfish. "Cheeky" Pom was correct and wins the kiss (from the batfish).
For round 12 I'll continue to veer as far as possible away from the ever-popular-among-this-crowd "cute and fuzzy" category, and ask not just for the creature's identity, but for a "what in the world is going on here"-type explanation...
A stink beetle (Stinkus Delecti) taking stink bombs to be dissolved into the tide. The tide will then wash olfactorily stunned little critters into its open mouth. ;-)
