Lumpfish attached to balloons


Lumpfish (or lumpsuckers) are benthic fish that feed mostly on bottom-dwelling crustaceans and worms. Rather than develop swimming skills, they have evolved the ability to attach themselves to rocks or other inanimate objects using modified pelvic fins that have become adhesive discs.

The image above shows them attached to balloons at a Japanese aquarium.
