Chimpanzee with alopecia universalis


"Cinder" is a chimpanzee at the St. Louis zoo who lost her hair because of an autoimmune disorder called alopecia areata. The zoo's website has more details re Cinder.

I post the image today to illustrate the upper arm musculature of the chimpanzee. One occasionally hears the comment that an angry chimpanzee "could rip your arm off." That may be an exaggeration... or not.

  1. Oh, it's very true. A male chimp is stronger (absolute, not by pound)than a full grown man by time they are 2!

    And those are the muscles on a female... very impressive. Especially since their workout consists of walking around a bit each day and climbing some trees.
