Girl sells 17,328 boxes of Girl Scout cookies

The Associated Press wire story is HERE (and many other places this morning). In this case the troop received about $1.20 per box sold; they sold the boxes for probably $4.00 each. This triggers the long-running debate as to whether it would be better to donate money directly to the Girl Scout troop rather than buy the cookies.

A Google search for "girl scout cookies" yields a bit over a half-million hits, including the dependable Wikipedia compendium of all-you-need-to-know, plus recipes for bypassing the Scouts and making the cookies yourself.

The argument for giving the girls money rather than buying their cookies is expressed in this article from last year entitled "Don't Buy Girl Scout Cookies," and in this Reddit discussion. Both sources provide a mix of informed logical discussion and rants of senseless outrage. Instead of offering an opinion, I'll just provide the resources for your own study...
