Child protection gone mad

Bob Yeomans, 60-year-old headmaster of St John's Church of England Primary in Walsall for 26 years, has been flagged by the Criminal Records Bureau for having a criminal record. He is waiting to hear whether he will lose his job.

His crime? A water bailiff caught him fishing with an out-of-date rod licence last summer while on a fishing trip in Derbyshire. Horrified at his oversight, he immediately pleaded guilty. He later paid a £50 fine and £70 costs and considered it the end of the matter. Now he's being asked, in effect, whether he's fit to work with children.

I suppose I should just take consolation in knowing that rampant, mindless bureaucracy is not limited to the United States.

Credit to Nothing to do with Arbroath, which also has THIS STORY this morning about an 82-year-old woman legally parked in a disabled space who was slapped with a £35 penalty because her orange disabled parking disc had been accidentally displayed upside down. (!!)
