I think there could have been a missed "1" before the "508"; in many languages "el" means the, and I may be grasping at straws but in a great number of languages "our" begins with N. My personal hypothesis, which unsupported supposition and should be regarded as such, is that the inscription reads something to the effect of "The Year of Our Lord Christ, 1508." This is quite a ways from the excavation's proposed date of 1609, but oddly almost exactly 100 years off.
