A pair of clubs, really, about the size of a hammer handle. There were various songs you did while beating them against logs, chairs, fences, or standing opposite another Lemmy Stick holder and clacking them against hers. It was a Girl Scout thing back then.Shayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16527241089629026268noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4912713243046142041.post-70206492182737848982013-03-06T20:37:00.119-06:002013-03-06T20:37:00.119-06:00Great clip - saw a young man doing something simil...Great clip - saw a young man doing something similar in the mall just the other day....Katehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07100411566414523718noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4912713243046142041.post-71411920082053311632013-03-06T20:16:39.422-06:002013-03-06T20:16:39.422-06:00that looks WAY harder than anything I ever did wit...that looks WAY harder than anything I ever did with hand clapping.
also, love the harmonies.Dorahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02310235419518959441noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4912713243046142041.post-5459747443611312342013-03-06T17:35:24.491-06:002013-03-06T17:35:24.491-06:00For the newest reference, the lead person "Be...For the newest reference, the lead person "Becka" in Pitch Perfect uses this technique and song for her audition to a university acapella groups. I first learned it at camp. Because it is based on a 4/4 rhythm, it can be applied to a number of songs. The recent movie just popularized it with a particular song.

Here is a demonstration from the tv show Full House:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpgWsy0N9Nc

Here's one to an Adele song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLI7tIs31qo

Here's an instructional video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Grb1oa72kmk

Here's a good example of it being played. Note how when someone near the front goes out the game continues without losing a beat:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNcriY_JOMQ&feature=related
This works because the first "thump" with the cup offers a chance to reset it's location prior to the second more complicated sequence.

It is also possible, though difficult, to do it syncopated. With one group half a sequence ahead of the other. I think this requires an extra cup.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adrITOXR1U4&feature=relatedxcentrichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15204805297770659537noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4912713243046142041.post-4477846789956875002013-03-06T07:41:02.400-06:002013-03-06T07:41:02.400-06:00I dunno about tracing it back to a fairly new movi...I dunno about tracing it back to a fairly new movie.
