It says something about this country...

... when the President of the United States considers our economic situation to be so severe that he considers it necessary to address a joint session of Congress and the American people via a national telecast... and then...

... then the broadcast time for this critical speech has to be adjusted so that it does not compete (presumably unsuccessfully) with a National Football League game.

I'm not sure what this "says" about us/him/the situation, but it seems odd.

  1. Does it say something about this country; Or does it say something of it's president?

  2. It says that everybody knows he really doesn't have anything worth saying. I know that sounds harsh, but it's the truth. I believe that if everyone truly believed that he had a major breakthrough that would make a difference, schedules would have been re-arranged. Also, why did the speech have to be right then? Why not the next night? (by the way, I didn't watch the football game :)

  3. It shows that an insane amount of people love the game of football - it is, by far, the most uniting thing about this country in the modern era. It's says nothing of the President.

  4. Honestly, it doesn't surprise me at all. I went to a high school that put far more emphasis on football than academics, so the thought that the wider world would be as skewed in its priorities is no shock.

Remember, this is a country where American Idol gets more people voting than elections. Also not surprising when you consider that you need to leave your house (and before dinner!) to vote for officials.

  7. Sounds to me like the TV stations are finally beginning to realize just how UNimportant that boob really is.

  8. It's a false dichotomy. We can find time both listen to a speech and to watch a game.

It is really just stupid for Obama to schedule this speech (which, by the way, was probably just more worthless nonsense) at the same time as an existing major event. And I hate football.
