Breaking an auto window with "Ninja rocks"

"Ninja rocks" is the street term for pieces of ceramic, typically obtained by breaking a sparkplug. Even a small fragment is capable of breaking the window glass of an automobile (and they are used for such by malefactors wishing to steal or rob a car).

There's a video at RideLust, with a discussion that says the reason for this is that ceramic is harder than iron. At Reddit there are comments in the thread that suggest there are other reasons, based on inherent stresses in toughened/tempered glass, and the susceptibility of such glass to fracture by sharp points.

In any case, the "ninja rocks" do (unfortunately) easily break auto glass.
