Test your color vision

Anyone who has participated in an archaeology dig has probably encountered the Munsell color charts used to define soil colors.

A very elaborate "Munsell Hue Test" is available at THIS LINK in which you drag and drop colors in an attempt to form an continuous spectrum of hues.

Shown above are screencaps of the starting array of hues, my attempt at sorting them, and the graded result showing that I confused some colors in the blue-green region.

It's a challenging test. Give it a try.

  2. The longer I stared at the colors, the harder it got. It's really interesting they tell you where in the spectrum you have a harder time discriminating. For me, the greens and yellows were easier than the blues and reds. Based on some vague memory from a psyche class I took, we have more receptors to distinguish greens (because we evolved in the jungle--where it's green and beneficial to tell plants apart), but not so much for reds and yellows. Anyhow, I got an 8. Good stuffs. :)

  3. Huh... I scored a Zero. Very cool test, will certainly pass this on to my friends.

Now I wonder why I'm in the physical trades instead of art or something. Sheet metal doesn't take much colour co-ordination.

  4. I'd only just done some colour blind tests and then came across this one... I got 116. I'm red-green colour blind and have troubles with blues too.

    Great post, thanks.

  5. I am worried this is also testing your monitor as much as your eyes.

I got 19 on my laptop, most of the errors in blue/green.

  6. definitely thinking monitors would matter too...my last monitor lost most of it's green phosphors over it's decade of use.

  7. got a 4 by the way...using an ancient crt monitor (syncmaster 900nf) and all errors were right near the far right of the spectrum.

  8. my wife claims I am color blind. I scored a 4. Boy was I surprised. I am going to send it to her and she. I know she cannot be color blind but she can certainly have less differentiation in hues. Cool test.

  9. I got a 0, but there were a few where I had to swap them a few times before I could tell which order to put them in.

  10. I got a 0. I found this relatively easy to do though. But I do agree that this tests your monitor heaps. I suppose that just means that I have a pretty good monitor~ Haha. Fun.
