Demographic Inversion

That's the two-dollar term used to describe the changes presently going on in many of the largest cities in the U.S., with a major influx of whites diluting or reversing the prior pattern of minority predominance in the inner city. The Wall Street Journal summarized the data in a July article, and this week there's one in the New Republic.

There appear to be a myriad of factors driving these changes - deindustrialization of the cities, African-Americans opting to live in the suburbs, Hispanics favoring rural areas, retired white empty-nesters being attracted to new housing opportunities in downtown areas. There are obviously advantages and disadvantages to such major changes in demographics, which I won't repeat here. Interested persons should read the well-written articles at the links.
